Suppose It's True?
Threecowboys had just left a rodeo and were headed down the road to the nextone. The conversation turned to the move of the Lord amongcowboys.
Two of them beganto question the reality of it .... they finally decided that "religion"was just a crutch .... some guys just needed something to hang onto.
They debated for acouple of hours trying to decide if there really was a heaven and ahell. They finally decided there must be a God, but that a kind and lovingGodsurely wouldn't send anyone to hell. They agreed they both did someprettyrotten things which they hoped God would overlook.
Thethird cowboy,a new Christian, finally spoke up. "Suppose it is true, after all, thatGod must punish sin, and that Jesus Christ took that punishment for us?Suppose the Bible is right when it says that all who are without JesusChrist go into an eternal hell ... and those who are with Him go toHeaven?"
"Why, God has madeit easy for us ... He has made the Way. All we have to do is acceptwhatHe has already done."
The Christian cowboysmiled and said, "it is simple. You just agree with Jesus when He says"I am the way, and the truth, andthe life; no onecomes to the Father but through Me" (John14:6). You admit you are a sinner for He says, "for all have sinned andfall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). "If you will confesswithyour mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raisedHimfrom the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes untorighteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation"(Romans10:9-10).
The new Christianpaused and looked at his two friends who were listening to himintently."if you'd like, I can lead you in a prayer which will change yourentirelives. It's a prayer of introduction to the Lord Jesus Christ ... Theprayerto receive His free gift of eternal life, for "whosoever calls on thenameof the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13).
Pray after me, theirChristian friend instructed them. "Jesus, I believe You died on theCrossfor me and that God raised You from the dead. I believe You took uponYourselfthe punishment for my sins and my guilt. I know that You are the onlywayto Heaven, and now I ask You to forgive me of every sin and come intomyheart. Jesus, I now make You LORD of my life ... I will love You, serveYou, and obey You all the days of my life. Thank You, Jesus, for dyingfor me and giving me a new life in You." AMEN.
Accordingto theBible, if you prayed that prayer with a sincere heart, and have made aquality decision to center your life around Jesus Christ, your newSaviorand Lord, you are saved!
